    Unethical Practise – Refusing Refunds
    November 18, 2020 6:53 pm
    1/5

I am writing this review to share my appalling experience with the wedding venue, Glemham Hall.

My partner and I were due to get married earlier this year, but were unable to do so due to the ongoing pandemic. As we had already paid a large deposit, and had heard of the difficulties with wedding venues refusing to refund couples, we decided to reschedule for April 2021.

With announcements made by the Government in September, we realised it would have been impossible to plan our dream wedding, so we decided to cancel. Luckily we were within the agreed terms and managed to get back some money.

Glemham Hall have refused to refund the remaining £2500, despite us receiving no services. £1500 was paid towards catering, and £1000 to reserve the date. Apparently, these are incurred costs, even though we cancelled 7 months in advance!

The caterer (Peter Harrison) has already been paid, even though we have never met him or attended taster sessions. No specific arrangements have been made towards our wedding.

Peter Harrison has refused to discuss the matter with myself, and is quite happy to keep £1500 for doing no work.

Glemham Hall are happy to keep £1000 for writing our names in the diary.

I have asked for an itemised breakdown of incurred costs, but Glemham Hall are unable (or unwilling) to produce this.

They have described themselves as ‘good people’ and not a ‘money-grabbing’ business. However, actions speak louder than words. They have dealt with this matter appallingly, with no sympathy towards us.

It is a shame, as the venue itself is lovely.

I would not recommend Glemham Hall or Peter Harrison catering to anyone.

Stay clear of this wedding venue!

My partner and I originally chose Glemham Hall because of the beautiful house and outstanding grounds. We put our trust in Glemham Hall to provide an amazing service, however I am extremely disappointed with the way we have been treated.

Our first wedding date was unable to go ahead due to lockdown and no refund was offered to us. Therefore, we rescheduled for early 2021 in the hope that our wedding would be able to go ahead as agreed.

When it became apparent that the whole wedding and planning process would be affected by restrictions for at least six months, we made the heartbreaking decision to cancel our wedding with Glemham Hall.

As soon as my partner phoned Glemham Hall to cancel, their tone of voice changed and it was clear they were not happy with our decision.
We cancelled 7 months in advance so managed to get some money back. However, they refused to refund £1000 for the venue hire and another £1500 for catering.

No service has been provided, apart from having our names booked into a diary. We had no tasting sessions for catering. My partner has repeatedly asked for a written breakdown of costs incurred to justify Glemham Hall retaining £2500. They have failed to provide this.

From the moment we cancelled, Glemham Hall were very unsympathetic and seemed unwilling to reach a fair compromise despite us repeatedly trying.

I really would not recommend this venue, or Peter Harrison catering to anyone. As a young couple it has taken us years to be able to save for our dream wedding. I would hate for this to happen to anyone else.

My advice to other couples would be to stay clear!
